Goals and Objectives
Educate others, both youth and adults, throughout North Dakota about the importance of staying safe in the sun.
Theme (required)
Participants must choose an appropriate subject/theme directly related to staying safe in the sun. This could include wearing sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and not going to tanning booths. Contest entrants may benefit from exploring the resources at these websites for background information: www.ndcancercoalition.org and www.cdc.gov/skin-cancer/sun-safety/index.html
Contest Guidelines
- The contest is open to any youth ages 8 to 19 (as of Sept. 1, 2024).
- Posters will be judged in two age divisions: preteen (ages 8 to 12) and teen (ages 13 to 19).
- The technical guidelines must be met (see below for list).
- Any poster that does not contain a “sun safety” educational theme will be disqualified.
- Poster entries must include the signed submission cover sheet.
- Posters will be judged on how well they present information about sun safety.
- Final judging and selection of winners will be made by the Poster Committee, whose decision is final.
- All entries become the property of NDSU – Extension and the ND Cancer Coalition, and may be displayed, published or used to educate the public.
Technical Guidelines
- Contestant must be a resident of ND.
- Only digital posters are accepted.
- Posters should be 8 ½ x 11, in a JPG or PNG format, and not exceed 5MB in size.
- Posters can be hand drawn, or created using Canva, Photoshop, PowerPoint or other software.
- Copyrighted characters (such as Snoopy, Charlie Brown, other cartoon characters, or work of others) cannot be used.
- This contest is for individual competition.
- All entries must be received by noon on March 14, 2025. NDSU is not responsible for any late entries.
Awards
Prizes awarded in the two age divisions (preteen and teen) will be as follows:
- 1st Place: $75
- 2nd Place: $50
- 3rd Place: $25
